Forward Goalie Warm Up
Set Up:
A shooting line is set up in the center of the field, 25-30 yards from goal. A target player is stationed just outside of the 18. The shooter plays the ball up to the target, and the target player (Player 1) lays the ball off to the left or to the right for the shooter to finish. Shooters retrieve their ball and go back to the line. The target player rotates out every two minutes.
Coaching Points:
1. The shooter needs to adjust his run to create a good shooting angle.
2. Control the ball in one touch and shoot quickly.
3. GKs should attack the ball when there is a bad pass or touch
Progressions:
1. Add another shooting line. The target can lay off to either player. The player who does not shoot gets to finish a second ball, passed out from the end line.
Touch, Turn & Shoot
Set Up:
The shooter runs into the penalty area and then back out again to receive a pass between the cones. taking as few touches as possible, the shooter controls, turns, and shoots. After shooting, players go to the line on the opposite side of the field. After passing, the player becomes the next shooter.
Shooting Box
Set Up:
A shooting zone is set up in the center of the field, on the 18. A target player (Player 1) is stationed in the zone, and three players (Players 2, 3,and 4) are stationed at the cone, set up ten yards behind the shooting zone. Players 2, 3, and 4 pass their ball into the target player, and he must turn and shoot while still inside of the shooting zone. Players should try to get the shot off in two touches. After taking six shots, the target player rotates out to the passing line.
Coaching Points:
1. Your first touch should allow you to run onto the shot.
2. Your first touch should allow you to shoot at all four corners.
3. Get the GK moving along his line.
Progressions:
1. Add a defender to pressure from behind, but not block shots.
Instep Shot with Pressure
Set Up:
Four lines are set up outside of the penalty area with a Feeder placed in between. The two lines furthest away from the end line are for the attackers and the two lines closest to the end line are for the defenders. The lines for the defenders start 3-5 yards further to the outside of the field than the attackers. During the drill, the players will go 1v1 to goal, alternating sides of the field. The Feeder starts each sequence with a pass into the center, and the players can leave the cones with the first touch. From there, the attacker finishes on goal, looking to shoot if there is time, or by faking a shot when there isn't. Upon completion, the players go to the lines on the other side of the field and switch from attacking to defending and vice versa.
3v3 Own Half Shooting
Set Up:
The two teams play 3v3 with GKs, on a split field. Players may not cross the center line while attacking or defending. Goals can only be scored on shots from within your own half.
Coaching Points:
1. Pass the ball in order to move the defenders out of the shooting lanes.
2. Use overlaps to create shooting opportunities.
3. If a defender is in good position, fake a shot and move the ball.
Progressions:
1. Both teams add a player in the other teams' half. Same rules for scoring.
2. Both teams add a player in the other teams' half, and he can finish in that half.
Striker Shootout
Set Up:
The shooter starts behind the cone and runs back towards the end line to receive the pass. He controls the pass, turns, and shoots in as few touches as possible. After passing from the end line, that player runs onto the field to become the next shooter. After shooting, that player goes to the opposite end line to pass.
